Refugio Ranch Winemaker, Ryan Deovlet, was trained in winemaking under the esteemed Paul Hobbs (Mondavi, Opus One, Simi) while working at Viña Cobos in Medoza, Argentina. Ryan has 15 years experience in viticulture and enology and has worked at wineries in Australia, New Zealand, Argentina and California. Ryan has been making wines for Refugio Ranch since the first vintage in 2008.
Refugio Ranch's flagship blend of syrah and petite sirah, named "Barbareño", was rated #40 in the world by Wine Enthusiast Magazine in their "Top 100 of 2014" issue. 17,500 wines from around the world were considered for this list. The 2010 Barbareño, which received this accolade, was only the 3rd vintage produced at Refugio Ranch - an honor for such a young winery.
